“And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me.” – Isaiah 6:8
It’s the last Monday in May, the day set aside to commemorate the men and women who died while in military service to our land.
From the first American rebels who died wresting liberty from the British to the 7 American soldiers killed in Afghanistan last week, our will to live free is reaffirmed.
Prostrate before The Lord, I give my thanks for these men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the liberty under which I prosper. Who paid with blood so that I can worship my God in the manner He commands. They died so I could raise my children as free people, that I can see my grandchildren thusly brought up. I plead with my God help me be worthy of this precious gift. I pray for the strength to stand fast in resisting that which would diminish our liberty.
For it is only by our own consent that we can again be bound to a will not our own.
We are indebted to those who paid the most terrible price, lest our indifference, our dispassion renders this providence worthless.
Every liberty is to be jealously, fiercely guarded with every encroachment suffered only in our most desperate of times and only for so long as unambiguously necessary.
So enjoy your day off. I will, but be mindful of what’s been purchased for us and at what price. Let us be mindful of our encumbrance; to ourselves, to each other and to our posterity.
Take a few minutes today and tell your children, tell your grandchildren what this day means, what it is that we honor today and what is our portion and our burden. Liberty endures but from one generation to the next.
God bless you and God bless the United States of America.
